Attending Own Your Life
Q. Who can attend the Own your life workshop?
Anyone who is interested, curious, or passionate about his/her own awakening into a more powerful life. We are all on a our own path seeking, being, and doing. We can all use a little guidance now and then. Own Your Life is about learning and practicing and awakening our inner intuitive intellegence so that we may look to ourselves as guides. Participants learn to create, listen, and awaken to the inside source in addition to their already-sharpened skills of listening and learning from outside our selves.
Q. How is Own Your Life different from other workshops?
Unlike many other workshops, Own Your Life is not lecture format, it leads our learners through experiences and the group discovers, learns, and shares so that participants can have experiences from experience. It’s like a guided tour of your internal world and the marvelous ways you interact with all outside of you. We guide and highlight some of the interesting sights, while you discover the rich insights for yourself. In other words, it’s about your own experience, our expertise is only a guide.

Q. What is meditation?
We love this idea of meditation: meditation is doing something on purpose while being aware of your doing it. This is a simple, contemporary understanding of the fundamental essence of meditation. Thus, a sitting/laying/walking practice is meditation and so is any single breath, dish-washing, driving, speaking, eating, when done on purpose. The benefits go beyond relaxing and calmness towards the source of happiness, inner peace, and right action in the world. But don’t believe these fancy words, you must explore yourself!
The word meditation, is derived from two Latin words : meditari means “to think, to dwell upon, to exercise the mind” and mederi means “to heal. The word is also Sanskrit a derivation of ‘medha’, meaning wisdom. http://www.healthandyoga.com. Many doctors today are prescribing meditation to improve overall health including lowering blood pressure and increasing focus.
Meditation is realizing that you are aware, increasing your awareness and presence to life and going one step further, being aware that you are aware. The benefits of this are endless. Healthwise, we are able to reduce stress in such a stressful time, improve moods, memory and decrease depression.
Q. What is yoga?
The word yoga means “union” in Sanskrit, the language of ancient India where yoga originated. We can think of the union occurring between the mind, body and spirit.
Q. Who can meditate?
Anyone can meditate, and you probably already have without even knowing it. Have you ever driven to a destination to only realize you have no idea how you got there?
Q. How does meditation, yoga, eating and conscious movement affect our daily life?
Each one of these is so important for personal growth as well as internal and external health. Our daily life is directly impacted because we move and eat and because of how we move and what we eat. What happens when we take ownership of the process, do it all with awareness and make the day your own?
Q. How do I learn to meditate?
Anytime you do something on purpose, you are meditating. Actually, though, meditation happens when you do something on purpose for the purpose of watching yourself in action. You can begin simply by breathing, and knowing you are breathing. Do this now, just for three breaths.
In Own Your Life, we will lead you through many ways to get comfortable meditating, and for those of you that have your own practice, you will enjoy additional perspectives.
Q. What if I have never meditated or done yoga before?
This workshop is for anyone at any level. Alex and Beth will guide you through any necessary adjustments that may need to be made in a comfortable, non threatening setting.
Q. How is conscious movement different from movement?
Life is short and we ought to enjoy it while we are here, don’t you think? Adding the aspect of consciousness to movement increases your awareness of everything you do, from getting out of bed in the morning to relaxing and feeling how good everything feels when you lie back down. Do everything purposefully and you will enjoy it a whole lot more. If you are working towards specific goals, you will find your path to be more direct. If you are fortunate to simply be maintaining health, you will actually find increased well being!
Q. Is the section on eating for weight loss?
The workshop covers many aspects of healthy nutrition. If you practice the wisdom you find during these experiences, and with the knowledge we provide and you are able to research, you will be likely to lose weight at a healthy pace. The workshop is not for weight loss as much as it is for devloping awareness of eating and how to eat with purpose, on purpose. However, the results of fundamental shifting your inner wisdom when it comes to food, and aligning that with knowledge from science and the world, can create real change that surpasses the results of any specific program.
Q. What if I only want to take part of the workshop?
You are free to take one or both days of the workshop. However, each day we will be covering different topics and the second day builds on top of the first. You will love each day, and really appreciate them both together.
